Cybersecurity risks in the US are an obstacle through daily life. There are constant state-hackers as well as hackers that try to steal confidential information from businesses, healthcare facilities, as well as financial services. The United States holds the number 2 ranking in the most cyber secure countries in the world only led by France according to Broadband Search. The two nations are very similar with their low infection rates of devices. France has a lower infection rate of 4.72% while the United States has an infection rate of 7.68%. Both France and the United States have very strong and reliable frameworks that were constructed for the “prevention, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrime.” Even though France is given the number 1 spot for cybersecurity, most would assume that the United States has a much higher security rate due to their high production of top technical devices. Not to mention their industry leading tech, but also the vast pool of intellect in this field that we have to choose from. In order for the US to move up the list to the first spot, they need to significantly decrease their number of domestic cyber attacks. Another stat that I feel is important to this discussion, is that many people possess two main pieces of tech at their homes: computers and phones. As France leads the US in the least amount of infected devices, it is the United States who has a lower amount of computers infected at 10.3% whilst France has an infection rate of 16.2%. The ramifications of these breaches are staggering. Involving other types of breaches, both public and private, the US loses more than $8.19 million dollars each year due to these data breaches which is nearly double the world average. France faces the amount of $4.33 million dollars in losses due to breaches each year. Although these two tech savvy nations lead the world in cybersecurity, it still costs them dearly in their losses.
