Cyber technology impacts interactions between offenders and victims in countless ways. This all depends on the category of cybercrime but non the less the individuals involved are all greatly affected. Starting out with cyber fraud. When a perpetrator commits cyber fraud by either stealing an individuals identify or in a new term ‘catfishing’, the victim is continually behind the eight-ball so to speak, attempting to correct and get ahead of the wrongdoing. They may be out a great deal of money trying to recoup financial losses or to regain their identity. They also must think twice about their social media presence along with constantly being on edge making sure their accounts are secured and even when it all seems in line, they will continue to second guess if someone online is pretending to be them. Digital piracy is another big impact. The impact may not be as big as it was with new free or paid streaming services. Non the less, musical artist are still out a great deal of money as a reward for their countless hours in a studio to produce music when an individual can copy, steal, and illegally download their music. The artist then begins to be reluctant on putting new music or content out as a result. Cyber bullying is another impact that has gained national spotlight. With most of our youth on social media these days they can be targets to cyber bullying. With content such as memes or short videos going viral, hurtful comments and constant tormenting can gain traction as well with more and more people chiming in. This has led individuals to change schools, lose friends, act out of their normal behavior, and the permanent solution to a temporary problem, commit suicide. It is appalling how an individual can drive someone to do such a thing just as much as it is for the effected individual to feel there is no where else to turn and that that is the ultimate solution. There is also cyberterrorism and cyber war where hackers can gravely affect a city by shutting down power grids or water treatment facilities. Individuals can post bomb threats online that will shut down businesses, schools, and commit valuable resources for a mere hoax or idle threat. No matter the instances listed above the impact of the interactions between cybercrime offenders and victims is serve.
