I find cybersecurity technology interesting because I can relate it to most aspects of life even more so with the worlds increasing demand and reliance’s on technology. I believe that cybersecurity is a necessary and complimentary tool of technology to be used in everyday life.
In the perfect world there would be no car accidents, house fires or natural disasters which require a person to account for these occurrences with insurance or a hedge against these unforeseeable instances. Reluctantly we do not live in a perfect world and bad things do happen. Technology is no different or immune where cybersecurity comes in to protect and minimize damages that can be caused from malicious hacking or site crashes.
As much as I sometimes dislike having to reset or meet and exceed password criteria, I know it is a much-needed tool in order to safe-guard my personal and financial information. This is small instance but in my eyes the gateway to cybersecurity in which I am looking forward to increasing my knowledge level for personal security but to also enable myself to move into this career field. Technology is not decreasing in the way we use it and I love being a part of and seeing it evolve firsthand.
Recently I have been on the other side where either the lack of or a weak point in cybersecurity took place at work. Unfortunately, a staffing application we use was hacked thus requiring the system to be taken offline to be fixed with further cybersecurity protocols implemented. Although my use of the system was not significantly impacted the headache and workload of my superiors was greatly affected. A simple everyday task was now increased tenfold with numerous additional workhours were added to individuals already busy days. Once this system is back online, I hope to get a better understanding of what exactly happened and as I progress through the curriculum be able to see where things could have reduced or deterred this occurrence.
