Introduction

This page is reviewing and analyzing “Digital Criminal Investigations in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: A Comprehensive Overview,” published in the International Journal of Cyber Criminology (Faqir, 2023). This review will explore the role of artificial intelligence in the digital criminal and improve crime prediction, suspect identification, and case management. Although the AI is related to the social sciences by being used in criminology and sociology.

 The study from the review explains how technology can effect our societal systems, especially in criminal justice, and it makes the societal rethink about law enforcement policies. This difference between humans and AI raises really important questions about justice and how AI may impact society. However, the main study’s question was “How can AI improve digital criminal investigations?” and the study was talking about how AI tools could be used to learn and how they can improve law enforcement’s skills to predict crimes, which can make streamlined cases way easier. The hypotheses in the studies require that AI integration will make the investigations and crime prevention outcomes more accrued. Additionally, the study reviewed the legal documents, scholarly articles, and study cases. It also analyzes the AI role in crime detection, and this analysis of technologies may allow it to be connected to the criminal justice system. Furthermore, this article is related to one of the topics that we discuss in the class in Module 2 when we have discourse on Integrating Social to Improve CyberSpecs. For example, AI can improve society by analyzing large datasets and predicting criminal activities. The AI can surveil the marginalized groups by programming the algorithm to not ingore there voice in the social and design AI to prevent discrimination. Additionally, this study can show the world how artificial intelligence can bring justice practices. For example, the study has mentioned the importance of ethical guidelines to stop misuse and bias, advocating for transparent, fair, and accountable AI systems in law enforcement.


Conclusion

In conclusion, this study has provided the importance of artificial intelligence in criminal investigations and how societies can use it to provide anticipation to the criminal and bring justice to the people who deserve it. However, the study mentioned that it may be used in the wrong way by applying miss guidelines to the marginalized groups. The study has deeply highlighted the importance of having ethical guidelines to make sure that AI will not be used inequitably in this regard.
