This article examines “Cyber Victimization in the Healthcare Industry: Analyzing Offender Motivations and Target Characteristics through Routine Activities Theory (RAT) and Cyber-Routine Activities Theory (Cyber-RAT)” from the International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime. Furthermore, the article explains how societal factors and human behaviors a significant reason for cyber victimization in the healthcare industry can be, which can be among the social science implications for people and their environments. It also dives into how people’s routines impact cybersecurity and organizational behaviors. The studies they have done in this article also aim to know the offender motivations and how they relate to cyber victimization in healthcare facilities. It includes the impact of people who work in these facilities and how they may be attacked by cybercriminals. The researchers analyze that the individuals’ activities can make them easy tragedies, such as using unsecured devices or repeatedly using unsecured networks, which can increase vulnerability to cyberattacks. The researchers used different methods to get most of this information; they have analyzed data from different reports about cyber incidents in the healthcare industry. They have used statistics to understand the bridge between routine activities and victimization. Additionally, the data they have used includes responses from healthcare professionals and reports from healthcare organizations. These data included also the motivations of the attackers and their routine activities. These articles, in some points, relate to the PowerPoint we have studied in the class, the points such as the importance of understanding the individual or the user’s behavior in the network and how it can lead to a cyber breach, and it highlights how some behaviors and routines can increase cybersecurity risks. Further, it also highlights how the lower-level employees are more of a weakness point in the organizations, which makes them easy targets for the attackers because they don’t have enough training about such attacks. However, this article also mentioned that individuals need more training programs about these attacks to fill this gap in any digital systems and enhance cybersecurity for all employees. Finally, this research provides important points on how healthcare organizations can be cybervictimization. By understanding these important points and developing them and giving them enough attention, it may protect their employability and sensitive data. The articles show how awareness programs can affect employers in a positive way against these attacks, which will enhance cybersecurity protection in the organization. In conclusion, the article shows us the important point about the routine activities from the individuales and how it can lead to tragedies for the people in cyber victimization. It also recommends having an awareness program in any organization to make significant improvements for the security of the organization’s outcomes and reduce the cyberattacks in the healthcare industry.
