Deviance is described as “the fact or state of departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior.” Work place deviance can occur easily in the cyber technology field since the deviance could happen through the web rather than face to face which would be harder to detect. A common example of work place deviance would be with a unsatisfied employee decided to lash out at his company whether its if he got fired or feels he deserved something he didn’t receive such as a promotion. For a example in the cyber technology field if an employee was fired from a job before he left he could down load sensitive information and sell it to rival companies for financial gain. If that employee authorization wasn’t restricted he could come back to work and continue harming the company. This would be consider work place deviance because it is it departing for what the company expects of you. Another example of cyber technology workplace deviance is disgruntled employees shutting down their security systems leaving the company open to attack. This would leave the company at risk of hackers entering the system and stealing critical information from the company. Cyber technology has created new opportunities because it is much harder to find the person when they are doing the harmful acts behind a computer compared when they are in person and can be caught on a security camera for example. This could potentially allow the employee to do more damage for a longer period of time before getting caught. Overall cyber technology has created more ways for work place deviance to occur and has also made it easier to do and makes it harder to get caught. Work place deviance will always occur in all types of work but cyber technology makes it easier to execute.
