Case Analysis on User Data

In today’s society, there are so many different privacy and data protection laws in place. At the same time, it can feel as though there needs to be more laws in place to uphold these protections. The GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. It's the core of Europe's digital privacy legislation. It is considered to be the strongest privacy and security law in the world. In this Case Analysis I will argue that the virtue ethics tool for moral reasoning shows us that the United States should follow Europe’s lead because of the fact that the laws and regulations that the GDPR contains the most secure privacy and security protection.
One of the concepts from the Zimmer article includes the fact that there have been studies around Facebook dealing with college students. These college students have been in studies revolving around social media and colleges portray this information to anyone who requests it. It was easy to conduct these studies due to the laws that are in place for individuals due to the privacy laws that are currently in place. The GDPR law could be implemented to make this data harder to access. The book itself is titled “But data is already public” it is only this way due to American laws, therefore, we could use the GDPR for the United States to make data more private and protected.
In the Buchanan article, there is a concept that suggests data mining and analytics of individuals should be pushed back. What I believe to be the most virtuous effort in this situation is to provide a balance between data mining and keeping data private and secure. With data mining, this is how many companies make their money. On the other hand, police and law enforcement are trying to become more technologically savvy and sophisticated to assist individuals who feel that their data is being protected well.
In conclusion, the GDPR should be implemented in the United States because of the rules and laws that are already in place that could be better and more efficient in the longrun.
