Journal #1 CYSE 201S

When reviewing the Nice Workforce Framework there are many different areas of cybersecurity that appear. When reading them it made me think about which one I want to do in the future. Or really which one I would be best interested or good in. So when looking through the Nice Workforce Framework a few areas that appear best to me are Protect and Defend, Investigate, and Securely Provision.

The reason Protect and Defend interests me is that I would like to identify and analyze threats to networks or software. Under that category I would be most interested in being a Cyber Defense Analysis or Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support. Reason for that is that they both follow the same structure of what I want to do. But between both of them I would want to be Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support because over all I want to be penetration tester.

Another area that interests me is Digital Forensics. Digital Forensics follows under the Investigation category in Nice Workforce Framework. According to the Nice Workforce Framework I would “Collects, processes, preserves, analyzes, and presents computer-related evidence in support of network vulnerability mitigation and/or criminal, fraud, counterintelligence, or law enforcement investigations” (Workforce). What catches my eyes most about that is that I would be investigating and analyzing criminal fraud.

One category that interests me less is the Analyze. The reason it seems less interesting to me is because I feel like all I would be doing is making graphs the whole time. If I could make a graph of what I have analyzed and do something about it. I would probably enjoy it more. Another one that I find less interesting is Training, Education, and Awareness. Which follows under the Oversee and Govern. The reason that its less interesting to me is because I want to be out there doing something in cyber crime instead of telling people or training people about it.

With that being said, Nice Workforce Framework does a great job at explaining and categories cybersecurity jobs. It helps narrow down what path I want to take in cybersecurity. It also helps me understand what department I would be a part of if I was to take that role.
