When looking at the majors at ODU you can see there are multiple majors that can relate to each other. So when seeing what majors can relate to cybersecurity, it’s not necessarily hard but not easy. It makes it easy by ODU offering lots of different majors. But it can make it hard for potential students to decide their major. Reason for this is the major you choose can reflect the outcome for your future career. So when deciding what major you want to do in the cybersecurity field, try to understand what you want to do in the cybersecurity field.
One major that relates to cybersecurity is computer science. Computer science is one of the most commonly known majors that relates to a cybersecurity major. Luckily ODU offers that major here. The reason why computer science is related to cybersecurity is because it allows you to explore all of the aspects of a computer. Also if someone is majoring in computer science they must know how to protect networks and systems from hackers. Which makes cybersecurity a major part of computer science.
Another degree that plays a role in cybersecurity is Database major. This major is also known as information systems and technology. This major practices analyzing systems and implementing systems to make sure they are secure and up to date. How it relates to cybersecurity is that they will have to know how to protect databases from digital hackers. If hackers were to get into the database they would have the power to destroy data or modify data for their own good.
Following that, another example of a major that’s related to cybersecurity is a degree in cyber operations. Here at ODU, cybersecurity major and cyber operations are two separate degrees. Cyber Operations practice infiltration, system attacks, recovery, and plenty more. In that little bit it shows how they are related to cybersecurity. Cyber operations is also part of the School of Cybersecurity here at ODU.
Lastly, another major that’s related to cybersecurity is computer engineering. A computer engineering major is related to cybersecurity in many different ways some might say. One example of how they are related to cybersecurity is that they have to have a hard understanding of computer hardware and software. That means they have to know how to aspect hardware and software or even fix/build hardware and software. With that being said, that is some examples of some majors that are related to cybersecurity.
