In this assignment I chose to review the scholarly article “Role of Cyber Security on Employees’ Digital Workplace Performance: Exploring the Effects of Employees’ Digital Awareness and Organizational Support” from the Cybercrime Journal. The article covers the impact of cybersecurity on the performance of employees in digital workplaces. I think this research aligns with the principles of social sciences we have reviewed in class. As you read the article, their examination on organizational support and security measures and how they influence the well-being of employees and the effectiveness of businesses overall.
The article discussed the hypothesis in H5 and H6, which basically state that organizational support plays a huge role in moderating the relationship between infrastructure security, cloud security, and digital workplace performance. These hypotheses guide the research in investigating specific aspects of these connections, making it evident that the study is rooted in the principles of the social sciences.
As for research methods, the article uses survey questionnaires to gather data from “private sector” employees. They used a straightforward random sampling approach for their research. Due to this method they had collected 544 questionnaire responses with a total of 56.07% response rate. I believe the way they collected this data ensures that their results were reliable and valid.
The types of data and analyses utilized in this study are quite comprehensive. The data that was collected was captured from multiple types and their analysis methods included “factor loadings”, “convergent validity”, and “discriminant validity analyses”. These different analyses made sure that the data and results collected were thorough and efficient. I also think that having a lot of moderation in their analysis techniques help support more insights gained overall throughout the different variables. Through all this we have a deeper and more full understanding of the research question.
Now for the greatest question of all – how does this relate to what we have learned so far? I wouldn’t say the article explicitly covers direct connection to concepts from our PowerPoints, but I do think the article aligns with themes we have discussed – cybersecurity, workplace technologies, and organizational behavior. The article touches on cognitive theories, behavioral theories and personality theories which align with learnings from this module specifically. It touches on cognitive theories by focusing on how individuals process information related to cybersecurity. In class we learned about the neutralization theory and other cognitive theories digging into how individuals think. The article also touches on behavioral theories discussed in class, especially in understanding how behaviors are learned. In class we talked about how certain patterns guide malicious and criminal behaviors based on those patterns. It also digs into personality theories, through the details on organizational support and impact on the workplace performance making such an impact on individual traits and characteristics.
Although I searched high and low, unfortunately it didn’t directly touch on any marginalized groups. This being stated I was still able to draw a couple conclusions along the same criteria which helped me to draw some concerns and connections. Although not directly relating to marginalized groups, it says that without inclusive cybersecurity measures, these groups may encounter additional barriers in accessing and benefiting from digital workplaces. For a connection it said organizations prioritizing diversity and inclusivity in their cybersecurity policies can help the overall digital workplace performance. Very clearly stating cybersecurity strategies should be designed with inclusivity in mind to ensure the success of all employees, regardless of their background, in the digital workspace.
Last but not least, let’s discuss the overall societal contributions. The article brings in practical ideas for boosting digital security in the workplace, especially in places like Saudi Arabia. It’s saying, “Hey, pay attention, and let’s make policies that make a difference.” The article also makes practical contributions by emphasizing the significance of critical infrastructure security and cloud security for digital workplaces, particularly in emerging economies like Saudi Arabia. It was pushing for policy considerations based on the study’s findings, reflecting a broader impact by reinforcing the importance of cybersecurity in the contemporary digital workspace!
