So far, I’ve leard the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity is kind of similar to the holy grail for anyone beginning in cybersecurity. It was created by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), and it’s basically the roadmap to all the jobs you can choose from in this field.
So using this framework I’ve found a couple options that I think would be both good and bad fits for what I am passionate about. I believe areas that would appeal to me the most would be the following:
Under Security Provision – Software Development: I really enjoy coding and problem-solving so I think software development would be a good fit. I also think I would enjoy Systems Security Architecture: I have some background in engineering so I believe it would be a wonderful fit with my experience designing secure systems and networks
From the Operate and Maintain section I know I would be a fantastic fit for Data Administration. I am really passionate about database management, so I think this would match my skills and passions well. Now regarding a couple fields I’m not entirely animated about would start with the Analyze section.
Language Analysis: As this works with applied language, cultural, and technical expertise to support information collection, analysis, and other cybersecurity activities; I don’t particularly find much excitement here. Not that this isn’t a good opportunity, but it doesn’t scream me.
Lastly, threat analysis: This area focuses reviewing the capabilities and activities of cybersecurity criminals or foreign intelligence entities. It involves supporting law enforcement or working with counterintelligence. I’m not necessarily getting into cybersecurity to work with the government. I know theres a lot of money to be made there but I cant imagine my day to day being very fun in a cubical.
Anyway, thats a little bit about me, what drives me, and well – what doesn’t!
