My major relates to cybersecurity technology because Criminal Justice is better known as the system in which crime and criminals can be identified, apprehended, judged, and punished. Crime is to be defined as “illegal acts committed in violation of the criminal law without defense or justification and sanctioned by the state as felonies or misdemeanors.” And cybercrime would be illegal acts involving the use of cyber technologies that are within the violation of criminal law. You see when crimes are committed who investigates? Law enforcement does. It goes for the same when technology is involved there are more ways for crimes to be committed if using the internet. Many jobs are offered for cybersecurity with a Criminal Justice Degree. Such as the FBI, CIA, National Security Agency, Department of Homeland Security. You could possibly have all your information stolen online where they steal your identity and open up credit cards in your name racking up debt. Or they could hack company servers and use whatever information they get their hands on to get exactly what they want. Or you could just simply be hacked to play the third party role. Now when it comes to the Criminal Justice major there is a for where cybersecurity experts to work on cybercrime. Now these are individuals who have the mindset and skills to pursue crime against networks, people and systems. There is a hacker attack every 39 seconds. Human error also accounts for 95% of data breaches. It is estimated that nearly $600 billion is lost to cybercrime each year.
