Hunter Morgan – Journal Entry – Week 4

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a commonly used way of examining needs in specific fields, such as the medical field. When looking at the technology world, regarding my own experiences as well, it can also be applied fairly easily. The needs are Self-actualization, Esteem, Love/Belonging, Safety, and Physiology. The base level in regard to technology would include power, since all technology needs a power source to function. The next level would include a secure internet connection, so the device is not an easy target for attackers. A VPN could also be used in this level, as an extra source of protection. The next level would be online communication, such as phone calls or text messages. It is very hard for anyone to be away from their loved ones, but with technology, you can communicate with them instantly, even when away. The next level would include things like social media, since many people use social media to feel better about themselves. It will boost their ego if their post receives lots of likes or positive comments. The top level would include using technology for personal growth or gain. An example I have been a part of is day trading, since it is all online and in real time. If I had to trade in person, without technology, it would not be something I would do.
