Hunter Morgan – Journal Entry Week 8

The mainstream media seems to depict the hacking process as simply a lot faster than it really is. The main thing that movies wrongly express is just how quickly they got into these secure systems. A hacker is going to spend days, weeks, or even months hacking something. A group of hackers could even have been working on something major for a year now, and just not yet executed it. Another thing is the realistic code in the media, as some is correct, and some is simply impossible. If you look closely, multiple movies so IP addresses with values over 255, which is simply not possible. I do think the media also makes hacking seem a lot more entertaining that it really is. I believe hacking is fun, however, the actual process is slow and tedious. Once something is successfully hacked, that is where the fun begins. The main thing the media portrays about hackers, is that is a quick and easy process, when in reality it is as difficult as they come.
