The scholarly article I am reviewing is Factors effecting cyber incident occurrence: Mediating Role of Cyber Incident Reporting Mechanism. This article examines the factors that contribute to cyber incident occurrence and studies the efficacy of cyber incident reporting mechanisms. Data was collected in 2019 from 219 employees who worked in various positions in different departments. My article has 5 hypothesis statements. This article relates to social science because it studies how incident reports can better relationships within the workforce. Social science is a group of academic disciplines that examine human behavior. It examines how people interact with each other and how it influences the world. The first hypothesis is cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between organizational innovativeness culture and cyber incident occurrence. The second hypothesis is cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between employee training awareness and cyber incident occurrence. The third hypothesis is cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between access control and monitoring and cyber incident occurrence. The fourth hypothesis is cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between employee satisfaction and cyber incident occurrence. The fifth hypothesis is a cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between insider threat detection and reporting and cyber incident occurrence. In this article, they demonstrated a lot of quantitative research. They put all this numerical data in tables to test the validity of each hypothesis. Table 1 examines the factor loading reliability and convergent validity. In each table, it breaks down the data into three different categories. You have the CR which stands for convergent validity. You have the AVE which stands for average variance extracted. Then you have A which stands for access control. In table 2 it examines the numerical data for the discriminant variable. Now that you have an understanding of the type of research being displayed, I will go over the data. Hypothesis 1 stating cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between organizational innovativeness culture and cyber incident occurrence was rejected. The p-value of this hypothesis was 1.01 and the T value was 1.34. Hypothesis 2 stating cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between employee training awareness and cyber incident occurrence was accepted. The p-value of this hypothesis were 0.014 and 2.97. The third hypothesis stating cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between access control and monitoring and cyber incident occurrence was accepted. The p-value of this hypothesis is 0.011 and the t value was 3.54. The fourth hypothesis stating cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between employee satisfaction and cyber incident occurrence was rejected. The p-value of this hypothesis is 0.87 and the t value is 1.22. The fifth hypothesis stating cyber incident reporting mechanism mediates the relationship between insider threat detection and reporting and cyber incident occurrence was accepted. The p-value of this hypothesis is 0.016 and the t value is 4.57. This article relates to a lot of concepts from class. In class, we learned about a concept called determinism. Determinism is a principle of science that means behavior is caused or influenced by preceding events. I feel like this article demonstrates a lot of determinism because the more people report cyber incidents mediates better relationships with certain people. Another concept we learned in class is a nomothetic model. This model identifies the relatively few causes of a behavior. An example of this is an incident report, as you can see this article covered cyber incidents. This article demonstrates a lot of challenges in the work field. For example, you have a lack of employee training and awareness, and employees are not being satisfied. Not enough reporting of cyber incidents, and threat detection amongst the company. The main societal contribution in this article is incident reporting which creates a better work environment. Incident reporting mechanisms act as links for better employee training, access and control monitoring, and inside threat detection.
Article Review 2
This article reviews the impact of digital literacy, citizenship, curation practices, connectedness, and online privacy concerns on cybersecurity behavior. The goal is to examine the relationship between these components and individuals’ cyber security behaviors. While offering important insight to guide training programs and interventions. This topic relates to social science because it requires a lot of communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and technical digital skills. There are ten hypotheses in this article. Hypothesis 1 states copyright positively influences cybersecurity behavior. Hypothesis 2 states Citizenship positively influences cybersecurity behavior. Hypothesis 3 states Curation positively influences cybersecurity behavior. Hypothesis 4 states Connectedness positively influences cybersecurity behavior. Hypothesis 5 states Online Privacy Concerns positively influence Cybersecurity Behavior. Hypothesis 6 states Cyber security Awareness moderates the relationship between Copyright of digital literacy scale and Cyber security Behavior. Hypothesis 7 states Cyber security Awareness moderates the relationship between Citizenship of digital literacy scale and Cyber security Behavior. Hypothesis 8 states Cyber security Awareness moderates the relationship between Curation of digital literacy scale and Cyber security Behavior. Hypothesis 9 states Cyber security Awareness moderates the relationship between Connectedness of digital literacy scale and Cyber security Behavior. Hypothesis 10 states Cyber security Awareness moderates the relationship between Online Privacy Concerns of digital literacy scale and Cyber security Behavior. The research methods used were quantitative, as they put the numerical data in tables. For hypothesis 1 there is a negative association indicating copyright laws are linked to a decline in cybersecurity methods. For hypothesis 2 the study provides evidence which suggests that citizenship enhances cybersecurity behavior. The research aligns with existing literature that states the importance of responsible digital citizenship in promoting safe online practices. The research for hypothesis 3 suggests curation enhances cybersecurity behaviors. The findings align with existing literature that highlights the importance of proactive content. The finding confirmed hypothesis 4 which posits the network enhances in cybersecurity behavior. The research findings of hypothesis 5 were confirmed. These findings suggest there is a positive relationship between online privacy concerns and cybersecurity behavior. For hypothesis 6-10 there was a discovery that cybersecurity awareness moderates the relationship between digital literacy variables and cybersecurity behavior. A concept from the PowerPoint that relates to this article is objectivity. Objectivity is when you study a subject in a value free manner. This is when scientists study to advance knowledge rather than promote an opinion. Digital Literacy and Online privacy come with some challenges. Some examples of that include privacy and security risk. The impact of digital literacy and online privacy plays a major role in society. It’s an important skill that allows people to access and analyze information. Digital literacy expands economic opportunities.
