Throughout recent years Indonesia has been victim to a multitude of terrorist attacks. As defined in the article “De-radicalization of Terrorism in Indonesia: Analyzing the Implications of Criminal Law Policy” by Reda Manthovani, Terrorism is the act of inflicting fear and critical harm to individuals through political motivation, though some of these acts of terrorism can be categorized as conventional crimes. To combat these attacks or punish the attackers the Indonesian government has legislated many strategies like improving law enforcement, intelligent corporations, and many other alternatives. However, despite their efforts, Terrorism in Indonesia is still high. To fully implement security in Indonesia programmes were set in place to measure and protect the society and lower radicalization with international influences.
Criminal Law Policies and Terrorism relate to the principles of political science and psychology in social science. This research supports political science because it involves laws and regulations, the numerous policies mentioned in multiple countries protect the people affected by terrorist attacks and everyone in the nation, furthermore, psychologically the policies they release center around the rehabilitation of the prisoners incarcerated, figuring out why people commit such radical crimes, supporting and giving prisoners psychiatric help, supporting, and preventing our youth from giving into influence. This study questions Indonesia’s process of deradicalization and what policy framework will decrease these actions of violent expression. This article reviews the United States, United Kingdoms, France, Russia, Australia, China, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia’s Criminal Law policies, their methods of de-radicalization, and their similar frameworks. Using evidence from laws, legal documents, and case studies, the gathered data can help compare and contrast to see what policies can aid Indonesia. This research article relates to week five’s context because it relates to theories of why people commit crimes and their motives.
A theory that’s relevant to the article is the Individual motive, specifically political. Not only are terrorist attacks mainly politically motivated; but the outcomes are politically pushed as well. This research can influence other countries that are struggling with high criminal activity and have weak policies; Furthermore, it can help education systems push them away from radicalization ideology from our youth, and prisoners the psychological help they need and deserve as humans, which can improve society as a whole.
In conclusion “De-radicalization of Terrorism in Indonesia: Analyzing the Implications of Criminal Law Policy” by Reda Manthovani is an excellent research paper that informs the world of a global threat and provides legal evidence to show that there are ways to battle against an unfortunate conflict. These policies can improve society because, with a de-radicalization society, society continues to grow without radical ideology interruptions.
