The four other majors at ODU that relate to cybersecurity that I have chosen are Cybercrime, Psychology, Sociology, and Computer Science.

I chose Criminal Justice because many Cyber majors proceed to then minor in Cybercrime. Cybersecurity can be used within Cybercrime as cybercriminals are becoming more and more prevalent in today’s society. Studies show that as time goes on criminals get more creative. Throughout recent years, criminals are taking their criminal ways to the internet. Individuals have their information being taken away from them. Information such as credit cards, passwords, home addresses, and many different other types of personal information.

Psychology is a great major that really relates to cybersecurity as well. Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. This can relate to cybersecurity because cybersecurity problems mostly happen due to human error. It can be important to understand as to why we as humans think the way that we do when it comes to cybersecurity. Many people still fall for the old tricks or scams therefore psychology can study what goes on in people’s heads.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. In short, sociology studies humans in group settings. We can use sociology to see how a cybersecurity team would address certain issues within their company. To then also to see why that was the best form of addressing a cybersecurity issue. Agreeing as a cybersecurity group is vital to the integrity of a network so that the best practices are done if the same situation were to happen once more.

Computer science is also a great major that relates to cybersecurity, some would even go as far as to say that they’re the same thing. Computer science deals with coding more so than cybersecurity does. But the two go hand in hand. Both majors are highly technology based, therefore, they are both important to one another.
