Cybersecurity risks in the U.S. include malware, passwords theft, traffic interception, DDoS, and phishing attacks. Cyber risks in Canada include phishing, ransomware, DDoS attacks, and zero-day attacks.

The cyber risk of the United States compares closely well with those of Canada. Malware attacks include adware, ransomware, and spyware. Adware is when multiple ads pop up on a computer or any type of operating system. Ransomware is a type of malware that threatens to release personal data until a ransom is paid. This type of cyber attack is one of the most common in Canada. Within both countries, more than half the population that had cybersecurity studied on them, claimed that it was mostly due to human error as to why they were a part of that cyber victimization.

Cybersecurity is necessary everywhere but most cybersecurity victimization is due to people not knowing enough about cybersecurity practices. One way we could prevent more future cyber incidents is by teaching kids in school basic coding languages. It could be a great way to get more people into cyber and provide more intellect on the situations at hand, however, this could also lead to more hackers and a greater risk then there could be a need for even more jobs.

The cyber risks compare but they are a little different. Canada’s main problem is phishing attacks, however, the United States’ main problem is having malware attacks on victims. Since most cyberattacks are due to human error, cyber criminals feel as if it is this type of attack is one of the easier ones to do. Hence why Canadians are facing this as the highest problem in their country. In both countries, there is a lack of cybersecurity professionals. The number of jobs is supposed to increase within the next five to ten years. The more cyber professionals come, the less those risks will be as high of an issue. An organization of cybersecurity experts is advocating for privacy amongst Canadians. The United States should do the same for the sake of the government and for the people of the country.
