In my opinion, no one can really tell if their computer is safe. All of the precautions could be put in place to have a safe laptop, but a hacker could still infiltrate a laptop even if they are able to expose one hole. Even with cryptography put in place, if a hacker can obtain a key then they could expose that network. Also, the physical computer itself can sometimes be unsafe as leaving a computer open around other individuals could cause loss of info or stolen information. Even when downloading something that appears to be from a trustworthy website, that download link could have malware installed on it as well and you wouldn’t know until it was installed on your computer.
So even if someone could set up their personal computer to the point where they may believe it is safe, it will not be completely safe as all hackers need is one opening to get in. When it comes to cybersecurity, every hole must be closed in order to prevent hackers from getting in. Some other computers are more protected than others.
The technology put in to protect information such as firewalls, cryptography, and access control are only a few of the ways that we implement cybersecurity to make our computers and technological devices safer. If we have these in place then there is more of a chance that our computer is safer and more secure.
In our society, there are many people out there with malicious intent, especially in cyberspace. There is no way to confirm that our computers are safe but there are ways to make them safer. To tell if it is safer, in the long run, is mainly determined by your ability to use it with little to no problems revolving around security and your safety on the internet.
