TalkAbroad Impression #2

My second Talk Abroad went very well. I enjoyed talking with my partner. Her name was Shirley, and she is from Mexico. She lives with her family and travels. The family that she lives with is her mom, her two sisters, and her brother. She is a phycologist and loves her job. Once we were finished introducing ourselves, we began to talk about the prompt questions. We talked about influencers and how they affected us. She said she thought the role of influencers was very important. She said they have a huge effect on the younger generation and that they are easily influenced by what they watch. We also talked about their responsibility. She said she thought their responsibility was to educate people. She said it could be about anything. She also said they could easily lie about what they are telling people. She even gave an example. She said if an influencer said “the moon is green” people would believe them. Since these people have so much power, they should use it to give correct information. We also talked about customs, and she told me one of her favorite ones. This costume was on December the twenty-fourth they would give hugs to everyone and said, “Merry Christmas.” She also talked about the Day of the Dead, which is a huge celebration in Spanish cultures. She mentions how this celebration meant a lot to her. She said these costumes meant so much to her because they represent her culture. Overall, this conversation went well. I could fully understand what she was talking about, everything went smoothly, and there were few pauses. The conversation was not awkward, and I enjoyed talking with Shirley. I liked hearing about her perspectives on influencers and agreed that they have a huge impact on the younger generation. I also loved hearing about her traditions. I thought her traditions gave me a deeper insight into her, her family, and her culture and showed me their values. One area I could improve in is not saying “uhuh” after she said something because it broke up our conversation. Other than that, I felt like the conversation was great. I defiantly improved from my first Talk Abroad. This conversation was more natural.
