The reason why I’m interested in cybersecurity technology is because it’s a very intriguing field to work in. Cybersecurity is important since we are in the era of advanced technology where it continues to evolve in different aspects. Cybersecurity is also very crucial in protecting important information whether that can be from certain companies or individuals in general. Cyber attackers are at an all-time high because they are the people who hack and spread viruses for their gains and when technology evolves, they evolve as well finding new ways and methods to steal important information from individuals are corporations. I want to learn more about cybersecurity and how to protect important information from unauthorized users, so it won’t be used for harmful reasons and learn about different ways to protect systems and understand the crimes people commit in the cyber world.

Four of the majors that are offered by ODU and that relate to cybersecurity are Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Criminal Justice. The way that Information Technology relates to cybersecurity because it deals with the aspect of keeping digital and physical data safe and secure, also making software with no errors or vulnerabilities to make sure that there wouldn’t be ways for cybercriminals to gain access and cause harm. Computer Science relates to cybersecurity because computer sciences focus on network and computer vulnerabilities and how to prevent cyber-attacks, without cybersecurity in the field of computer science information can be taken. Computer Engineering relates to cybersecurity because it identifies potential vulnerabilities and threats that could occur in applications, networks, and systems, identifying these potential vulnerabilities and threats can lead to methods on how to prevent those challenges. Criminal Justice relates to cybersecurity because they protect valuable information, investigates cybercrimes, prevents cyber attacks from happening, and figures out methods to protect information. These fields all have some form of relationship with cybersecurity that helps make them strive to be better and more advanced. They help make sure that information is protected and doesn’t fall into the hands of dangerous people who can use it for harmful reasons and personal gains.
