Though cyber technology is becoming a lot more advanced each day that goes by it is very beneficial in the workplace environment where it has made communication better, better access to information, and tools that can make people’s jobs easier. Even though cyber technology can be beneficial in the workplace, there are also negatives that it can bring like workplace deviance. Workplace deviance is employee behavior that may violate necessary company policies which can jeopardize the company’s productivity and well-being and may also cause dysfunction among the employees. Some of the ways that cyber technology may have created opportunities for workplace deviance might be because of an employee’s personal reasons where they can be angry about something for example this can be cyber fraud. Employees can use cyber technology to steal money from the company and use it for themselves where they would be committing fraud. Not only could they steal money from the company they could also steal important and private information which could be leaked to the public or even sold to different rival companies so they would have access to that company’s private information which may hurt the company. Employees in the workplace may be aggravated and may be at the breaking point of leaving their jobs, or maybe the boss is giving them a hard time which makes them even more irritated than they already are. This could lead employees to do petty actions to maybe get back at their boss or it can be the same way with another co-worker for example an employee can do a cyber sabotage. Cyber sabotage is when equipment is intentionally damaged or messed with, this can range from shutting off the security systems where hackers can easily be able to gain access to information or even implementing viruses and malware into the system. In conclusion, there are multiple opportunities for workplace deviance to occur using cyber technology and it makes it easier to accomplish.
