Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal and the five more serious ones is the sharing of passwords and addresses of others, recording a VoIP call without consent, using other people internet without consent, bullying and trolling, and using unofficial streaming services. These are not in any specific order, however from least to worst:
Cyberbullying and trolling of other social media users is something that a lot of people do to other because they are behind a screen and not aware of the consequences their actions have on someone. When bullying is face to face, it is not as many people being the bully, but since people can hide behind a device they can bully and pick on people they would be afraid to do to in person. This is least because the person getting bullied could just get off social media or off their device.
Using other persons internet without consent is an illegal act of gaining access, either using an open network or cracking the Wi-Fi password, to use the network. Doing so would result in the network owner or administrator having to pay more for the data the unauthorized user has used.
Using unofficial streaming services is similar to using images online without consent of the creator. The credit or profits is not going to the content creator, resulting in that person missing out on potential earnings. Not the most serious but is still something a lot of people do either without knowing or without thinking their will be any consequences for doing so.
Recording VoIP calls is serious crime that is normally reserviced to government agencies to perform. Doing so is basically intercepting a phone call that has been converted into a digital signal that than transports over the internet. Phone calls are intended to be personal and confidential and when people tap into the phone call to record what is being said can be a breach of security within the network. This would be an instance of a cybersecurity attack and will result in a set of procedures to mitigate and prevent these attacks from happening again.
The most serious illegal activity is sharing passwords and addresses of people without their consent. Passwords allow for protection to a network and account without allowing everyone to have access to the database. When cyberattacks take place hackers try to crack passwords in many different ways and some of them can share the passwords they cracked to allow other hackers in their group to have access to the confidential information in that database. Doing this is highly illegal and can result in jail time if the attacker is caught. This activity is the most serious because it can result in the most loss for the account holder and causes the most aftermath in trying to mitigate and resolve the issue from happening again.
