The five levels of hierarchy are physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization.

Physiological Needs

Technology is not only a cellphone and laptop/computer, technology can also be the stove needed to cook food, water treatment plant to provide drinkable water, or a automobile to provide transportation to the food. Digital technology that I personally use to fulfill my physiological needs is electronic financial transactions. These transactions allow me to pay for my house, food, and water. An example is that I pay my landlord, who lives around 4-5 hours away, $605 a month for a roof over my head by sending the money digitally between our banks.

Safety Needs

Moving up a hierarchy needs level, the safety needs are technologies that provide a person with the security and safety from any and all harm. A digital technology that has protected me from attacks is my home network’s firewall. This type of technology allows for my personal information to be protected while I access the internet at the my house. I have configured my firewall to deny any access to the network that is already recognized and to report any suspicious activity.

Belongingness and Love Needs

Moving up another hierarchy needs level, belongingness and love needs, is the need to be loved by friends and family to have a sense of belonging and fulfilment. A mobile phone and my laptop are digital technologies that I use to stay in touch with my loved ones. At least once a week, I will use my cellphone to call my grandma, who lives in San Diego, to catch up with her and talk to her about how my schooling is going.

Esteem Needs

Esteem needs in the hierarchy of needs, is the idea of feeling a sense of accomplishments and self-worth. Many people use social media to share their life styles or their hobbies and would use the positive comments or likes on the post as a self-esteem boost. I personally use my cellphone and record my workout exercises to compare myself to past lifts from a month or so ago. When the weight or form has improved, it gives me an increase in self-worth.

Self-Actualization

The highest level of importance in the hierarchy of needs is self-actualization, which means the achieving of a person’s full potential. A user my use technologies to help them achieve their goals or even help them fully complete their goals. I am using a website called hack the box to teach myself about ethical hacking. I have achieved my goal of completing the starting point activities and I am almost fully knowledge in the use of NMAP within Kali Linux.

For some context, Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological theory that describes human motivation and needs in their hierarchical structure.
