Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

Computers have had a huge impact on the world. For the better and for the worst. Computers have made the world safer in many ways. Some of the ways computers have made the world more safe includes improved healthcare, improved transportation safety, and improved natural disaster prediction. However, computers have made the world less safe in many ways, as well. Some of the ways computers have made the world less safe include cyber threats, privacy vulnerabilities, and job displacement.

Computers have brought many positives to the world. Improved healthcare is one of these positives. Computers have enabled advanced medical diagnostics, treatments, and patient care. All of the medical imaging technologies being used rely on computers. An example of one of these medical imaging technologies is the X-ray machine. Computers also make it easier for healthcare providers to access patient information quickly as medical records can be stored electronically. This improves treatment and reduces error. Another positive that computers introduce is improved transportation safety. Computers power advanced navigation systems, traffic management, and vehicle control systems. All of these systems play a role in reducing the risk of accidents and collision. Computers also improves natural disaster prediction. Computers help predict and mitigate natural disasters. Computer simulations are used to predict severe weather events. This allows individuals to respond according and in a timely manner.

While computers have made the world safer in many ways, they have also made the world less safe in many ways. Cyber threats is one of the biggest ways that computers have made the world less safe. Computers have introduced new risks and vulnerabilities such as malware, phishing, ransomware, and many more cyber threats. Through these vulnerabilities malicious actors can steal sensitive information, disrupt operations, and extort money from individuals and organizations. Privacy vulnerabilities is also a major concern that computers add to. Being that computers are so heavily relied on privacy and data protection are two major concerns. Personal information stored online is vulnerable to unauthorized access. Data breaches can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, reputational damage, and other concerns. Job displacement is also a concern that computers introduce to the world. Computers and artificial intelligence have executed many tasks previously performed by humans. This leads to concerns about job displacement and economic disruption. The implementation of computers in many work places have resulted in job losses. This negatively impacts workers’ lives and economic stability.

In conclusion, while computers make the world safer in many ways, they also make the world less safe in many ways.
