How Can You Tell That Your Computer is Safe? (Journal #5)

Safety on the internet is extremely important. It is important because we want to keep our sensitive information safe from people breaking past those boundaries and stealing your information. It is hard for the everyday person to keep their own private information safe. The constant going through emails and deleting junk mail, even putting in a code or password is just too much or too complicated. A CNBC article states that up to thirty four percent of all cellphone users don’t put in a password or code to unlock their phones. This is extremely unsafe, because if someone with the wrong intentions gets access to that device all that information on that phone is stolen and gone from that owner of the phone. The most basic thing to protect yourself is to always have a password or code to all of your personal devices. You can tell someone’s device is safe if they open it and that they have to put in a password or code.

With the advancement of technology computers have bright technological advancement making the world a safer place. With our past year of 2020 with lockdowns being enforced computers gave a new and safer way for people to stay connected with family, work, and school. It also opened up new job opportunities for people, giving them the comfort of working from home and keeping covid cases low. One other thing that computers have done is keeping our sources of income safe. By allowing us to keep our money in an online bank that only the account holder can see. It has gone so far as making it easier to pay our bills on time and not having to stress over financial issues.

Unfortunately with the advancement of technology and computers, there are some unsafe uses of it. As we know there are constant Cyber threats that come with the use of a computer. There are hackers that breach into peoples, businesses, and government computers stealing valuable information and selling it. One other unsafe act of computers and technology is that anyone can pretend to be someone else. This is extremely unsafe not knowing who you are talking to. Especially if that someone is pretending to be someone close to you. Lastly, once you are logged into your personal device you are giving up your right to privacy all of your social media platforms, online transactions, and any information shared and received can be stolen by a hacker.

It is important to understand how your personal diviced work and what you can do to protect them. The easiest way is to always have a password or code for your devices. It can be seen that the advancement of computers has opened up new ways for us to go on with our everyday lives. Yet it is not as safe as we assume it to be. There is much more work needed to be done to ensure that computers and technology have our backs.
