We can understand that without the media we would not be exposed and informed about many things. For example if we look at the cybersecurity aspect media has a major impact on it. Giving a general understanding of what cybersecurity is. The film industry has also had a big impact on what may go on behind cyber hacking. In the video “Hacker Rates 12 Hacking Scenes In Movies and TV” shows how the film industry portrays cybersecurity and hacking. Keren Elazari, an international security analyst breaks down each movie and TV show scene and explains what goes on behind them. One movie called “Ocean’s 8” has a scene where our main character can be seen using open-source intelligence, which is when a hacker goes into someone’s public social media profile and examines what that individual is interested in. Then our character uses spear phishing attacks, this is when a hacker finds what an individual may be passionate about and targets them by sending them emails of that passion in hopes they click on it so they can gain access to the computer.

Media itself often portrays cybersecurity threats in dramatic ways by using too many high-profile cyber-attacks, data breaches and cybercrimes. It may be appealing to the everyday person, but it may create a perception that cybersecurity is just constant danger and stress. With the educational side, media can produce content that is aimed to educate the public on how to practice good cyber protection, such as setting strong passwords, recognizing phishing attempts, and updating software regularly. The media has major potential on showing how cybersecurity is not always an immediate danger, but also a good way to practice on how to keep individuals’ sensitive information private.
