The reason I am interested in cybersecurity technology was due to my mothers business. My mom has a clothing and jewelry line, where she brings over clothes from different places close to home. Places such as Saudi Arabia, India, and our home country of Bangladesh. All of her jewelry is handmade by her and all of the designs for the jewelry is from her own creative mind. Her business is called MASSMA Creations. As of right now it is a small business, but I know one day it will become something even greater. That is why with the experience that I gain with my cybersecurity degree I want to put that into her business. I’ve already seen people trying to steal her designs from her business facebook page. Also people leave disrespectful comments on her page. I know this is some minor things as of now, but when her business grows I know there will be greater issues than just rude comments and idea stealing. When the company gets to the online world I want to make sure there is no issue of exchange of money, file leakage, phishing, and many more that I will learn throughout my journey. With this in mind I never knew how many majors provided at ODU relate with cybersecurity. A major that I never really thought of was Engineering, but to my surprise they have a lot of things related to Engineering. It applies science and math to make solutions for technical problems. Another major that was surprising was Psychology. My understanding of Psychology was the study of the mind, yet the answer was right in front of my face. It is the study of the mind, I see what they are saying. We need them to understand why someone would commit a cyber attack on us. One major that does make sense is Criminology/Criminal Justice, they have a concept called Cyber Criminology which is the study of crimes that occur in cyberspace. One other major that was not a surprise was Information Technology, they provide support with computer based information systems. For them attacks on information systems is a daily thing, and with their knowledge of that it can help cybersecurity as well. As we know there are constant cyber attacks all the time. It can be on a small business or even a big corporation. That is why I want to be a part of it, to protect everyone.
