According to DSM, at least five (out of the nine) criteria must be met for a formal diagnosis of \u201cdisordered social media user\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the past year have you\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Regularly found that you can\u2019t think of anything else but the moment you will be able to use social media again? Yes\/<strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">No<\/mark><\/strong> (Preoccupation).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Regularly felt dissatisfied because you want to spend more time on social media? Yes\/<strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">No<\/mark><\/strong> (Tolerance).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Often felt bad when you could not use social media? Yes\/<strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">No<\/mark><\/strong> (Withdrawal).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Tried to spend less time on social media, but failed? <strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">Yes<\/mark><\/strong>\/No (Persistence).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Often used social media to escape from negative feelings? <strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">Yes<\/mark><\/strong>\/No (Escape).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. Had serious conflict with parents, brother, sister (friends, relationships etc.) because of your social media use? <strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">Yes<\/mark><\/strong>\/No (Conflict).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I think some of the items on the scale are valid, but some are not being descriptive enough for me to properly answer them. Also the scale is outdated being from 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I think different patterns are found across the world because everyone has a different kind of living style. Some places have more restrictions for social media than others, especially religious areas where social media is not really found.
