The dynamic landscape of Cybersecurity offers many overlaps in the profession. The four majors that Old Dominion University offers, that can relate to Cybersecurity are Criminal Justice, Engineering, Economics, and Psychology. First, Criminal Justice would relate to Cybersecurity by finding and dealing with criminals. However, the only differences would be for the most part Criminal Justice would mainly deal with in-person crimes, while Cybersecurity is all over the Webb and focuses on protection of the network not necessarily bring the criminal to justice. There are Criminal justice majors that only work online. This would be the biggest overlap as they deal with all the laws and deal with finding criminals Online. Next Engineering, these two majors relate in the sense that Cybersecurity can involve engineering as well. Cybersecurity professionals will engineer programs and networks and build them from the ground up just like how engineers build things like buildings, bridges, and machines. Whiles the two majors are building are vastly different, they still are building things from nothing and thinking critically on how each step will affect the whole thing no matter how small the step was. Next Economics, most modern banks use online platforms to do their business. Dealing with that many transactions over a network requires a lot of protection. This is where Cybersecurity comes in. They can watch over these transactions, find and report malicious or bad transactions to the bank or proper authorities or take action themselvs by finding the area where the hackers are getting in and stopping it from happening. Lastly Psychology. In Psychology and Cybersecurity, you will be dealing with how people think. Also, you must learn patterns and recognize vulnerabilities and develop effective strategies in fixing these problems. In Cybersecurity you will have to determine when attacks could happen or where they would happen. This means you would have to learn how people think, to stop these attacks.
