There are a few ethical issues you could talk about when storing electronic information about individuals. What I would say are the most prevalent is privacy concerns, data breaches, and information not being up to date. First, privacy concerns are the biggest risk when keeping personal information electronically. Putting your information into websites that are not trusted or having your information out for everyone to see or get to on the web can cause a huge problem. Having this happen would foster the idea for people to commit identity theft and subsequently steal everything they can get into using your information. Examples of simple ways that you would not even think could cause this would be sharing a password and email, having the same password for multiple accounts, and many other things. Next, data breaches are becoming more prevalent, and happen to about anyone these days. Some people do not think they will ever be a part of an attack until you get hit by one. Data breaches can cause your identity to be stolen by an active attacker, they specifically targeted you for whatever reason they have. Lastly, up to date information can lead to many problems. If something that had happened in the past that your trying to get away from is still out there on the internet, then that is none up to date information and can cause a problem if bad enough. For example if you have some videos of you being childish from five years ago and that comes up during a job interview then it could possibly change or ruin your chance of securing the job. In summary, Keeping the information about you up to date on the internet, making sure you are following proper precautions to lessen your chance of having someone gain access to your computer, and making sure your being smart about where you put in your information and not to share any passwords, emails, or any logging material with anyone will keep your information safe and protect you.
