Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

The impact of technology and computers continue to grow more and more each day. As technology advances, it has made the world a safer place in certain aspects. In regards to home security, the creations of at-home security systems such as ADT, SimpliSafe, and Vivint protect people from intruders and possible home invasions. In the event of a home invasion, these security systems instantly notify the police and thus minimizes the time intruders have in inflicting any harm or damage. These home security systems also alert homeowners who come by at any point in the day, giving them an even bigger sense of security and peace of mind when they are away from home. Additionally, technology has allowed people to share their locations with their friends and family wherever they go. Having your location shared with people you trust is extremely helpful in the case you are in danger and must be rescued. This is especially helpful for parents who work away from home and want to ensure their children are safe and can be tracked down. Lastly, the creation of two-factor authentication makes it safer to store personal information online. This extra layer of security, which is used to ensure that you are who you say you are, protects private information and guarantees that information is being given to the right hands. Although technology has made the world safer, it has unintendedly made it less safe as well. Because of social media apps, sharing private information for the world to see warrants danger. Sharing where you are and what you are doing to the public can potentially put you in harm’s way in the event a criminal who intends to harm you sees it. Second, having personal information on your computer can be hacked and stolen if not properly protected and secured. Lastly, an increased form of communication from computers can lead to stalking, harassment, and cyberbullying. Advancements in technology have both benefits and drawbacks in terms of safety.
