Journal Entry #1

To a certain extent, I am interested in cybersecurity technology. The main reason why I am taking this course is that it is a requirement for my intended major, Criminal Justice. However, I was interested in cybersecurity technology for a short time and thought about going into this career path. One reason I am interested in cybersecurity is that it has several roles and specialties that you can go into. For example, risk management, forensics, governance, assessment, engineering, compliance, architecture, etc. Another reason is that you can learn how to get into the system, defend it against a cyberattack, and make the system safer. As a result, cybersecurity is a two-sided dilemma. From one aspect, you must consider how to compromise the system, and on the other, you must consider how to stop it from occurring. Furthermore, cyberattacks are common, frequently inventive, and can cost companies a lot of money. In addition, my sister works in the cybersecurity field as an analyst and the amount of money she makes had me fascinated. The fact that my sister didn’t go to college and has a successful career inspired me to want to learn about cybersecurity. She taught me cyber codes and I understood what I was doing. I considered going into cybersecurity for a while. My little brother is planning to go into cybersecurity. He takes a cybersecurity class at New Horizons in Hampton, Virginia. After graduating high school, he will attend Thomas Nelson for two years and then transfer to Old Dominion University to get his bachelor’s in cybersecurity. Because I have people in my family that work in cybersecurity or are interested in cybersecurity, I have a few resources to go to if I ever need help with something in this course. I am excited to learn more about cybersecurity.
