I know that it may not be that impactful, but I’ve constantly seen the gaming industry ravaged by cheaters that abuse their knowledge of technological systems to gain an advantage. Now I understand that this may not be as a large problem as some of the problems revolving around cybersecurity, but it’s what created the interest in seeing what possible steps I could do to prevent things like this. Plus, cybersecurity has always seemed like an interesting topic especially if you acknowledge the growing technological presence and impact. Technology is evolving and there are increasing ways that can be used for harm, it seems imperative that I learn how to counter that or protect myself and any of my information. Even being on my computer on a site that I have never been on concerns me even if others have used it. Back when I was younger, we didn’t care about what we downloaded and what sites we went to and the things we clicked on. Without a doubt, I can say that I have probably killed a few computers or at least ruined a few hard drives.
Partial of me hopes that it may help me in the future when it comes to my goals of creating and being a part of a team that makes Video Games. I remember a time when the Infamous World of Warcraft was plagued with a virtual disease as a result of a software bug. It’s instances like these that give me an interest in cybersecurity. I know that it may not have been the result of someone intentionally implementing it into the game, but it shows that every piece of technology has a hole that someone can figure out how the access. It is our job to learn how to protect that hole that at times may need to be accessed by us or any other user.
