module 3

How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?

Cyber technology in the workplace has created deviance because more people have easy access to it. This level of accessibility has allowed more employes to access data. Because of this, more data can be shared and sent to the wrong people. For example, before cyber tech, most people had to meet in person to send data and information in a physical form. Now that cyber tech is more accessible, data can be shared faster than people can blink. This means that more training needs to be done to help employees of companies detect if data is being shared for the wrong reason.
In some cases, these people are using cyber tech for devious things because they are getting paid more than they are at work. In some cases, the person committing the crime is under the impression that the person that they are sending data to is a boss or a co-worker. It could also be that companies do not understand much about this. Cyber tech and therefore does not have the best security towards them. As the tech gets better and better, this creates more of an opportunity for people to want to take advantage of them. More needs to be done to combat these types of crimes in the world we live in. If people do not learn the best ways to use these technologies, then more crimes will happen.

But how can we fight this? The best way is to educate. The next way is application. Showing people how the products work and how they can be used for harm is another excellent way to show how to spot it. The next way is to build up security infrastructure so that these attacks do not happen in the future. Having a way to monitor activity and see where things are being sent is a great way to know when data is being stolen and who in the workplace is doing it.
