Prompt: Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal. Review what the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.
Andriy Slynchuk provides eleven examples of common actions taken by internet users that can in some cases be illegal. Although the seriousness of these actions is subjective the five I have selected five actions that I believe to be the most serious. the first and most serious of which being illegal internet searches. While information is not inherently illegal, what an individual intends to do with that information ultimately decides the legality. Searching the internet for explicit underage content or chatrooms is in fact illegal, using the internet to hire hitmen or joining an online terrorist organization would also constitute a crime as the intent is clear. The second most sever online action is easily sharing an individuals private information online with the intent to harm or harass them. This action open an individual up to identity theft and can potentially place them in danger of physical harm. The third most serious action is online bullying or harassment. While cybercriminals may find many ways to justify these actions there are real-world consequences for the victims. While the physical disconnect may appeal to cybercriminals the nature of the crime is still the same. the forth most serious action is collecting information about children as they are incapable of consenting to terms of service provided by organizations. The fifth and final illegal action is online identity fraud. While an individual may fake their identity without the intent of harming others weather it be to purchase products that require age verification or view mature content, these actions still constitute fraud and are inherently illegal.
