How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?

My name is William Patchel I am a freshman at ODU. My Current projected major is cybersecurity. Learning the components of what cybersecurity is and learning the technology involved in the major is essential to my success. Even other majors that are involved with computers should learn aspects of cybersecurity. For example I originally was split between choosing computer engineering and computer science as my major which both fields would need to learn at least the basics of cybersecurity. The technology that is involved in cybersecurity is vast and requires constant studying because as with all technology it is always changing and evolving. When learning about technology in cybersecurity it is important to understand that you will need a basic understanding of not only the hardware components of a computer but how the software and hardware interact and react to different actions and programs. Of course this depends on your major and as I am a cybersecurity major the technology involved with it is essential for me to learn. Some information about my major would be that I need need to learn new hardware previously unknown to me and a lot of software which I am not too familiar with yet. On the hardware end of things I would say I am pretty familiar and comfortable working with parts. I recently built a pc to familiarize myself more with computers and I have been doing research about the parts and each function. I feel this will help me tremendously in the future for my major in cybersecurity. Hopefully this class will give me a strong starting point for my major. I hope I build a basic understanding for the technologies that are involved in my major through this class and it will make my later classes when I am an upperclassmen easier.
