Cyber security covers a very broad spectrum of knowledge and can be applied to many other careers and majors. Cyber security is essential in learning how to identify cyber threats to your software and hardware components alike. This skill in itself is very valuable and will become even more useful as technology keeps advancing. Some other majors that would need to take a cyber security course would be ones that deal with computers and even crime. For example a student majoring in computer science needs to be familiar with cyber security the reason being is that they need to be aware of what threats are out there and how to effectively protect software and hardware devices they have. Another major that requires cyber security is Criminology. I was surprised at this one but I actually ran into someone who was a criminology major and they were saying that they were required to take a cyber security class as well. The reason for this being is that a criminology major needs to be able to adapt to the new threats and cyber crimes. They need to be familiar with digital threats and understand how to prevent, identify, and stop them. Another major that is required to take cyber security is computer engineering they would learn also both hardware threats and software threats. They would need to know this because it may change how you go about creating a new software system to be more protected. Lastly Information security, this definitely requires cyber security as information security needs to gain the skills needed to analyze operating systems and repair internal security breaches. There are many other applications to cybersecurity and it is a major that will continue to grow and become more relevant as technology and digital threats continue occur. Cyber security is an essential skill to all careers and majors that involve crime and technology.
