Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.
Many ethical issues arise when companies, organizations, and even the government stores information about individuals. Our information is shared and stored everywhere, every action you take online can be tracked, monitored, and recorded. For example your cell provider can see your search history and even has a database of phone/ text receipts, and any search engine and website you visit uses cookies to see what your common searches are to personalize ads to you. The downside to that is cookies can be controlled by hackers and used to get personnel information. Generally speaking there are four major ethical issues that are involved in storing personnel information: Privacy and confidentiality, security breaches, system implementation, and data inaccuracies. All for of these pose as a threat to you and anyone on the internet. Privacy and confidentiality is always being threatened on the internet especially when it is being stored by a for example a social media website. These social media websites that store your information and use cookies are especially dangerous as hackers can more easily access your social media account then say a bank account. But when you have your information stored privately on a website there guarantee that it will be private forever as it can be leaked. Next security breaches for example when your working for a private organization and you are accessing sensitive information on a personnel email that is highly dangerous and can easily be hacked into. System implementation and how your data is used and what you are doing is constantly being used as data and for statistics. Lastly data inaccuracies when storing personnel data if a company incorrectly manages your data and transfers for example a bank or a brokerage app, that can cause serious complications, and is a risk you take when not properly protecting your information.
