What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
To start off I would like to say throughout this class I have notices a large number of trends correlating the information learned in this class to my criminology class “introduction to criminology”, CRJS215s. There is a large overlap between criminal justice and cyber crime specifically because cybercrime has its own laws and rules that criminology and criminal justice covers, this trend has been increasing over the recent years because over time more and more crimes are being committed throughout the internet. But on the other hand the internet provides a certain level of disassociation and anonymity to such a crime and can be committed from the comfort of one’s own home. One reason why they are so similar now is criminologist look to what is called human factors as a means to explain human behavior. Criminologists discuss human factors in criminal justice and within cybercrime. Another overlap is that when seeking a cyber security degree you are required to take both cyber security classes along with criminology classes the reason being is that the nature of both majors is so similar that you cant fully understand one without at least having a small understanding of the other. One of the other disciplinaries we discussed in class would be digital forensics which is is a branch of forensic science encompassing the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices, often in relation to computer crime. Digital forensics stems from what criminologist use to solve crimes as well and go hand in hand. criminal justice scholars play a critical role in growing Digital Forensics. One of the bigger areas of overlap is how criminal justice is potentially handy in assisting to identify appropriate interventions and responses to cybercriminals.
