Entry 3

Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.

When it comes to storing information about individuals electronically, there are some ethical issues that come up. The four I will discuss are: Personal Privacy, Harmful Actions, Liability, and Access Rights. Personal privacy is all about protecting information that is on these servers. If somehow an IT person accidentally discloses this information, people who should not have this info now have access because of this. This can be a huge problem depending on how sensitive the information that was leaked. Next, ethical issues are harmful action. This is when the information that is being stored is damaged, lost, or mortified. If this ever happens can change the meaning of the information or cause many other problems if destroyed. This is why it is important for those who are meant to protect this info so those attackers never get a chance to this. Liability is another ethical issue that is happening now. Companies promise that their security will protect one’s information. But will still have you sign a liability waiver so they won’t be responsible for the loss or damage of your information. This is a huge problem because those who are responsible for protecting your info don’t get blamed for the consequences. Lastly, the last ethical issue would be access rights. This issue is about only allowing authorized users to the information. This is a problem because many attackers will try to impersonate being an authorized user to gain access to the information. So, IT needs to find a way to verify if those trying to get access truly are the person, by asking for a password or credentials. All these issues are huge ethical issues when sharing/storing your information electronical, and users need to be aware of these issues.
