How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
With the advancement of technology it has created a great amount of opportunities for workers. Has created more jobs for many. But technology has created other opportunities like workplace deviance. According to Chron workplace deviance is, “ a planned, purposeful, and hateful attempt to disrupt an organization.” Some examples that they gave were: Aggressive Behavior, Unproductive Behavior, Abuse of Property, Company Politics, and Abusing the Flexibility of Working From Home. Now, that we have an idea of what workplace deviance is, we can see how cyber technology has made more opportunities of this. One way technology would help this type of behavior is Aggressive Behavior. If a worker is displeased with something or someone they can spam email or call them if they get that information. They can make other workers feel uncomfortable to come to work because of what they send. Making workflow slower and more likely unproductive. Technology can also encourage unproductive behavior. A worker can be able to play games or message other people while at work on their phone or computer. This means they are doing less work since they are preoccupied with other things that they are not meant to be doing. Technology can also start political talk at the workplace. Since everyone can get some type of news on their phone or computer they can see things about politics. This could start conversations that could lead to arguments about politics at the workplace when there is not meant to be any talk about it. Lastly, the one thing technology can really help with is abusing the flexibility of working from home. Everyone loves to stay home and nobody wants to go to work. Now with technology has given the ability for workers to work from home, when they are sick or have work going on in their house. But some workers will try to take advantage of this privilege. They can just easily call their boss and make something up and just try to stay home and work. This messes with other workers who need to stay home for something but someone else has already called out and now they have to come in person to work. So, even though technology can make work easier and better, it can encourage some type of workplace deviance that nobody wants to deal with.
