Cyber technology has created opportunities for workplace deviance by creating a space for those who have knowledge of their systems to become insider threats. Insider threats come from within the organization. Employees know of the vulnerabilities in the infrastructure and have the access already to exploit them. The employee can also work with other groups and individuals to steal information and plant malware. Workplace deviance can be done intentionally and unintentionally. An example of unintentionally is, employees installing software or using hardware outside of the organizations exposing them to risk. Harassment between employees can take place using cyber technology. Authorized personnel can access funds and sensitive information giving employees the opportunity to embezzle money and commit fraud. Employees shouldn’t share sensitive personal information without authorization. This is a breach of privacy. Misusing cyber technology is deviant and can put the user and system at risk. While cyber technology does help with productivity in the workplace, it also hurts by giving employees the opportunity to be deviant. Promoting ethical behavior amongst employees can help to reduce such behavior.
