Journal 2: 1. Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.
2. Compare cybersecurity risks in the U.S. and another country.
Some of the ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information of individuals are:
1. Inappropriate use of data,
2. They are keeping an individual’s data for longer than necessary
3. Selling customers’ personal information to third-party companies for business
4. Not announcing data breaches that deal with customers’ personal information.
The lack of an ethical and professional culture of dealing with personal information in an organization will negatively impact the business’s reputation. Additionally, Ethical oversights are needed to ensure to alternate the appropriate security measurements to store personal data. Ambiguity and confusion involving keeping data need to be removed, and clear principles and ethical codes should be presented to people so; they know the right way to act. Besides that, to have a comprehensive list of moral and ethical principles of dealing with electronic data, we must consider both current and future use of data.
On the other hand, when discussing cybersecurity in the United States compared to others countries and Brazil, France, Iran, Japan, and Singapore, the U.S. failed to improve its cybersecurity stance. Most alarming for some readers will be that the U.S. dropped from its previous ranking of 5th to become only the 17th most cyber-secure country on the planet. The fact that the U.S. economy has done well this last year, which has meant it has become a greater priority for severe and organized criminals, and U.S. data has proved valuable. And aggressive relationships with Iran, a disruptive messaging relationship with Russia, and a fierce trade war with China all point to these countries wanting and enabling more cyber-attacks on the U.S. However, all that said, there is one factor above all else that could see the U.S. dropping in terms of overall cyber-secure ratings if not addressed. Security arrogance in business and around the population, with no one feeling they are at threat or need to take mitigation measures.
