Within this presentation it explains the components of a business, below are questions and answers under them.
Questions:
- Identify other components of a business
- Where do they “fit” in the organization
- Where does IT “fit” in an organization?
- What are the Roles & Responsibilities w/in IT?
- How should IT itself be organized?
Response:
The other components of a business within the presentation included, Legal, Internal Auditing, Technical support, Knowledge Management, Policies and Procedures, Supply Chain Management, and Public Relations. All of these components fit in the organization in different ways. There is a cohesive structure that is made and created with these components. These functions enhance organizational performance and support strategic objectives. The way that IT fits in organizations is it all follows the same pyramid. As seen in a typical chart it goes CEO, to operations, marketing, sales, finance and technology. For IT the pyramid goes CIO, to PMO, Architecture, Development, Security, and Operations. CEO and CIO are generally the same and have same functions. After that is where there is slight changes but in all it follows the same general path. That is how IT fits in an organization by following the same pyramid scheme. A few Roles and Responsibilities I have personally seen have been IT manager, System Administrator and Network Engineer. They all have their own perks and key factors to the IT world and there is even a larger number of these out there. IT itself should be organized like a general company. So far what I have learnt is it already follows that general path and I think it is a good way to keep it in check. IT is a growing field and is only getting larger meaning more people working and more things to go wrong. So keeping a general path for it to follow will keep it on its head for future tense.
