Mod 12 Entry

After reviewing the article, I think the most serious violations are bullying and trolling, using torrent services, collecting information about people younger than 13, illegal searching on the internet, and sharing passwords, addresses, or photos of others.

Cyberbullying and trolling are both widespread phenomena now that a great number of people have access to smartphones and the internet. Being targeted by a cyberbully may increase children’s risk of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or even feelings of worthlessness. So, there are several laws against cyberbullying and trolling.

When using torrent services, the users feel that everything is free and enjoy the services. However, torrent services are yet another way for users to get pirated copies of movies and music. Those are typical theft behavior, and of course, this is illegal. The copyrights only belong to the original creators.

Collecting information about people younger than 13 violates the Children’s Online Protection Act, and those are definitely illegal. The strictly enacted laws can protect children from their physical and virtual environments.

Illegal search on the internet is a serious violation. Some terms can land you in jail. Even though search engine companies do not report illegal search activities, most search engines can block illegal research, for example, how to make bombs, etc. Sharing passwords, addresses, or photos of others, is illegal too. Without their acknowledgment or agreement to post any information about others that obviously violates people’s willingness and violates the laws.
