Social media is something that many of us use daily and sometimes we neglect how much information each of us have on the internet literally right now at this very moment. Many of us have our bank information, personal identity information, and private photos all being protected by a fingerprint, face scan, or a four-digit password (that is probably you or your mom’s birthday). We use social media for so much that we are dependent on it, so much to the point where if we lost our cellphone somewhere, a potential hacker could have enough information to steal one’s identity.

With more and more advancements in technology, cyber threats will be an issue for the for seeable future. This forces individuals to become more intentional with various process of how we give our information to prevent different risk of being a victim of a cybercrime.  The general public is frequently seeing various different cyber attacks at higher levels such as the government and major corporations. So, if these big organizations and companies that have money and resources to prevent these issues are still capable of being victims of cyber incidents this tells me that almost no one is completely safe.

I believe the perception of hacker has changed between older media and current. Hackers are no longer what we have commonly seen in the movies. The genius from high school that eats pizza in his basement strategically hacking things. It has become far more common and easier. Hackers can just simply monitor the information that an everyday social media user provides and exploit that information. This issue is seen every day.
