Article Review #2
The Impact Cyberbullying Has on Jordanian Students

How It Relates to Social Science
3 principles of social science that this article relates to are social learning theory, general
strain theory, and social control theory. Social learning theory is where people change their
actions based on the interactions that they have on social media, other interactions with
their peers, or from their prior experiences in life. There are many victims of this in school
which just reinforces the behaviors and attitudes of these bullies and might lead these
people to change their attitude. The general strain theory is where people experience a
strain caused by cyberbullying and leads students towards maladaptive behaviors like
cyberbullicide ideation. Cyberbullicide ideation is when a person considers committing
suicide because of their experiences with cyberbullying. Lastly, social control theory is
when someone is missing a parental figure, and they are more likely to perpetrate or
experience bullying behaviors because they have a weak social bond with people.

Research Question

The research question for this article is understanding the relationships between
cyberbullying victimization and cyberbullicide ideation between Jordanian college
students. Basically, it talks about how victims of being cyberbullied can lead to thoughts
about suicide.

Research Methods Used and Types of Data Analysis
They used structured surveys for Jordanian college students from multiple universities
across the 12 Jordanian counties. They also have many participants from the science
colleges and other colleges so they could have a broader student population that would fill
out their surveys for better data. They were able to successfully survey around 1,000
Jordanian college students and some of the demographic factors included: gender, college
type, religious practices, hopelessness, and cyberbullying that students deal with.

How it Relates to the PowerPoint
This can relate to the PowerPoint because it talks about geographical areas and this
surveys area takes place in Jordanian colleges. Based on these areas and it being a college
a lot of students have access to technology and have the ability to be cyberbullied
compared to other areas that don’t have any way to have access to technology.

How it Relates to Challenges, Concerns and Contributions of
Marginalized Groups

The risks are higher in these marginalized groups in the article based on their gender,
economic status, cultural norms, and the limited access to resources. Gender is included
because females were reportedly more likely to have psychological distress after they
experienced cyberbullying. Also, their economic status and their college major because
most people that were science college students had a higher rate of cyberbullying ideation
compared to other students.

Overall Contributions to the Study of Society
One of the contributions that the article had towards their study is that they need to spread
more awareness on cyberbullying. They want to spread more awareness by educating
students, parents, and the rest of the community so they understand the risks and impacts
that cyberbullying can have on people and if you have experiences anything then they
encourage you to seek help. Another contribution towards their study was to support
students that are already vulnerable to cyberbullying. They want to have a counseling
service, mental health support, etc.

Conclusion
In conclusion, this study was mainly about how cyberbullying victimization(victims) are
affected by cyberbullying. This leads to cyberbullicide ideation which means that they
consider suicide because of their experiences with cyberbullying. Then it talks about the
study that Jordanian college students have had with cyberbullying through data from
surveys that these students have filled out. Cyberbullying mainly causes bad mental health
towards these victims and that study’s main goal is to spread awareness and help the
victims of cyberbullying.
