Week 5 Journal Entry

Review the articles linked with each individual motive in the presentation page or Slide #4.  Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each motive the way you rank it.

  1. Revenge

Sometimes people commit cybercrimes as an act of revenge against people or organizations in retaliation. An example of this would be revenge porn, which involves the distribution of sensitive and personal explicit images of another person without their consent. Unfortunately, it is difficult for victims to get justice.

  1. For Money (Financial Gain)

Along with cybercrime, financial gain is an important factor in a lot of crimes

today. Usually, criminals look to gather sensitive information illegally and hold it for ransom, or participate in scams such as identity theft and bank fraud.

  1. Political

political beliefs, motivate cybercriminals to commit crimes against governments and organizations. This may lead to important federal information and documents being exposed and also systems being compromised.

  1. Multiple reasons

Sometimes there is more than one reason for committing these cybercrimes.

  1. Entertainment

Criminals commit crimes strictly for their own enjoyment, not considering how what they are doing affects others.

  1. Boredom

I think that cybercrimes being committed out of boredom is also similar to entertainment as well.

  1. Recognition

Committing cybercrimes to gain recognition by the public or by law enforcement. Criminals are just committing crimes for attention
