How did you score?
What do you think about the items in the scale?
Why do you think that different patterns are found across the world?
After completing the social media disorder scale, my score was 3 out of 9 which is classified in the “risky usage category. Although social media is not a necessity in my daily life, I do use it often. I have attempted to cut my social media use by setting timers and hiding the apps on my phone’s home screen. Honestly, I have been unsuccessful on these attempts because I just end up searching for the app when I am getting bored, or disregarding the timers set. I also have neglected some activity due to my usage. Also, during times that I may be feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I find myself scrolling social media to relieve myself of those feelings.
I think that the scale does a good job when describing social media use on a personal level, however I am curious to know how this would apply to persons that are required to use social media for work, such as influencers or business owners. There are different social media patterns around the world because some areas may not have access to technology or internet (due to financial or geographical regions), which leads to a decrease in social media usage, and an increase in-person interactions.
